This recipe has been in my family and passed down for generations. It is almost too simple, and yet it is always everyone’s favorite meal. I have never made these and not heard my kids yell “yay!” when they see what we are having for dinner. The oil and vinegar dressing really makes these - using a commercial (or homemade) balsamic glaze is also really great on them and is less messy!

Hot Subs

1 lb lean ground beef

1 clove garlic, minced

1 small onion, diced

1 tablespoon mixed italian herbs

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon ground pepper

1/2 t. Ground mustard

1 T Worcestershire sauce

1 Cup shredded Mozzarella cheese

Split top sub buns

Toppings (get creative with any other toppings that you would like…banana peppers, onions, etc):

shredded lettuce

diced tomatoes

Dressing:

1/2 cup olive oil

1/4 cup balsamic vinegar

1 T mixed Italian herbs

Brown the beef, onions and garlic and drain off any extra grease. Add all seasonings and stir well. Turn the heat off and add the cheese. Allow the cheese to melt while stirring.

Assemble the sandwiches and top with lettuce and tomato. At the table, add the oil and vinegar dressing to the sandwiches.
