The Flower Stand is Growing!
We are excited to be offering a new way to buy flowers this year! The DB Farms Flower Stand will still be stocked with our mason jar arrangements and our large paper wrapped flower bouquets, but this year we are introducing the Flower Bar! The Flower Bar will be at the same location and will have buckets of individual flower varieties already cut and prepared for you to choose from. Each flower variety will be priced by the stem. You get to choose your favorite flowers and fillers, rubberband the stems together, slip them in a bag, and take home your own custom made bouquet!
While it is quick and convenient to grab one of our already made bouquets, this will give others who have a bit more time the ability to choose their favorite colors, textures, and varieties of flowers. And because we grow a lot of unusual flowers and fillers that can be hard to find, this is a fun way to experiment with different and unique flowers that a lot of people don’t have access to.
When making bouquets, the possibilities are really endless…limited only by your imagination and creativity. Flower arrangements can be made to match your house decor, or to accent a party’s color theme. They are also a great way to show someone that you are paying attention to their favorite colors and flowers.
Some of the flowers and fillers that will be available at the Flower Bar are:
Zinnias - Giants in a rainbow of colors, the popular Queen Lime series, and the very unique Unicorn Zinnias
Dahlias - We have 20 different varieties this year in all colors and sizes.
Strawflowers - a beautiful flower, but the real charm is in it’s texture - straw-like!
Sunflowers - 10 varieties of sunflowers! The sunflowers are succession planted so they will bloom nonstop all summer
Daisies - a summer staple
Feverfew - the filler equivalent of daisies. Almost every bouquet on this farm has some feverfew in it…I believe it is a must for summer arrangements!
Snapdragons - my favorite, in all colors!
Marigolds - and not the ordinary ones you normally think of…both bushy, mini marigolds that make a beautiful filler, and giant marigolds that make awesome focal flowers.
Stock - the fluffiest of flowers, and the BEST smelling flower there is
Bupleurum - a bright green filler with dainty yellow flowers. Complements all other flowers.
Forget - Me - Nots - not just blue - in pink too!
Eucalyptus - everyone’s favorite! We grow buckets of this every week and could probably sell truckloads.
Bells of Ireland - another favorite. This is a sought after filler/flower that can be difficult to grow. You won’t want to miss these!
Queen Anne’s Lace - we grow multiple varieties of this - essential for giving flower arrangements a feminine/sweet vibe.
Celosia - a workhorse and essential filler. I personally don’t think a flower arrangement is complete without this. We grow the feather and plume varieties in all colors.
Asters - an often overlooked flower that makes an amazing focal flower. This is one you don’t want to miss.
Gomphrena - an accent flower that adds so much personality, color, and interest to arrangements.
Statice - an essential, colored filler. Blues, yellows, and pinks with greenery
Lace Flower - similar in looks to Queen Anne’s lace, but the flower heads are pale pink or blue. Very dainty and gives arrangements a feminine/sweet vibe.
Cress - a full/thick, green filler. And yes, it’s the same stuff we eat! But, it has gone to seed by the time it is useful as a flower filler. Multiple varieties are grown on the farm.
Calendula - an early focal flower. Neutral colors (beige, white, cream, yellow) that go well with all fillers)
Phlox - pale pinks and creams. A shorter-lived flower. A great accent.
Orlaya - Similar to Queen Anne’s Lace, but with a larger/sturdier flower head. Less feminine than Queen Anne’s Lace.
Salvia - a bright accent flower. Tall and adds dimension to arrangements.
Basil - an essential filler. Full, green, and smells great.
Mint - a green trailing filler that works well with all flowers. Smells great.
Cosmos - beautiful focal flowers. The foliage is also used as a bushy, full filler.
Clarkia - Pink filler
And so many more! We truly have a huge selection of both flower and filler varieties and colors. We grow flowers in bright and bold color palettes, and we grow flowers in soft, muted color palettes. When making your own bouquet, you might decide to combine the muted colors of phlox, strawflowers, calendula, stock, and eucalyptus. Or…you might have a friend who loves bright sunflowers - so you could combine sunflowers with forget me nots, bupleurum, and dahlias. Making flower bouquets is a form of art, and it is a great way to be creative and express yourself. Plus, it is a lot of fun!
We hope that you all are as excited for this year’s Flower Stand as we are. Many of the flowers are already in the ground with many more started in trays and getting ready to head outside. We look forward to seeing you soon!
